Chileans account for 56% of foreign tourists in Bariloche. Proximity, affordable prices and Patagonian nature are the key factors.
Chileans account for 56% of all foreign tourists visiting Bariloche. In January and February, the Chilean presence is so noticeable that the Patagonian city literally becomes a Chilean destination in Argentina. In the first 8 months of 2024, approximately 682,000 tourists visited Bariloche, with 80% hotel occupancy in January 2025.
Why does Bariloche win Chileans over year after year?
According to Vivencias Travel, the main factors are: geographical proximity, affordable prices, multiple transport options (bus, car, plane), and a range of activities in the middle of nature (lakes, mountains, trails, food).
The most requested activities: hiking and trekking, rafting, horse riding, boat trips to Isla Victoria and Puerto Blest, and the Andean Crossing.
The growth of student tourism
"Student tourism has grown considerably in recent years. Schools are looking for experiences that are educational but also fun. Bariloche offers that perfect balance," says Flavia Thomaz, Sales Executive at Vivencias Travel.
Historically dominated by families, Bariloche is seeing a sustained increase in school groups looking for programmes with adventure activities, immersion in nature and unique group experiences.
